How to Have a Sustainable Holiday

How to Have a Sustainable Holiday

We’ve all been on the receiving end of gifts that we didn’t need, use or want. That’s why, this holiday season, we’re encouraging everyone to give better, and shining light on some simple ways we can all reduce our environmental impact.

“This holiday season, we want presents that we’ll love for a lifetime, that are made with that intention in mind. Thinking this way will make for more a meaningful holiday. And it’s so much better for the planet.”

-Jen Sey, SVP and Chief Marketing Officer of Levi's® Strauss & Co.

BETTER CHOICES

We’re making better products, so you can make better gifting choices. Keep an eye out for a little green leaf on a product image to signify the use of sustainable materials and manufacturing processes.

Check out our Give Better 2021 Gift Guide for ideas for everyone on your list, including personalizable presents from our Tailor Shop and sustainable styles for him and her. And if you’re visiting a Tailor Shop in person, drop off a pair of your favorite lived-in Levi’s® for repairs.

BETTER SHIPPING

Of course, sustainability is not just about what we buy—it’s also about how we buy it. The convenience factor of fast shipping when we buy online overshadows the fact that it’s a source of increased carbon emissions. Here are two helpful tips to curb those emissions:

  • Plan ahead and shop early to reduce your need for expedited shipping.
  • If retailers give you a choice, select the options that allow for your entire order to ship in one delivery to reduce packaging.

BETTER WRAPPING

Your shipping boxes function just as well as any store-bought gift box. So join us in taking a no-new-box stance and reuse what you already have. When it comes to wrapping paper, before you break open a new roll, gift bags and tissue, see what’s around your house.

Paper grocery bags, used packaging mailers or fabric make ideal wrapping-paper replacements. Plant cuttings and small trinkets are thoughtful substitutes for bows and ribbon. And those upcycled materials give your presents a personalized touch.

Everyday choices can have a big collective impact. With a little thought, some creativity and a lot of care, we can give better—together.
